Fresh Food Shouldn’t Be Out of Reach

Grocery prices are climbing, and it’s being felt at kitchen tables across Grey Bruce. Fresh produce, once a staple, is becoming harder for many households to afford.
The Good Food Box program can help to lower that cost for anyone.

Administered by United Way of Bruce Grey and run by local volunteers, the program makes fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible by purchasing in bulk and passing the savings on to the community. For $25, participants receive a box packed with a variety of quality produce. There are no eligibility requirements, just a simple, practical way to stretch your grocery budget while still eating well.
According to a recent CBC report, “The price of cucumber has increased 28.4 per cent over the past year, climbing sharply since January. The monthly average retail price was $2.21 per cucumber in February. In March last year, the price was $1.54.”

It’s a clear reminder of how quickly food costs are rising and why local solutions matter.
The Good Food Box is more than just affordable produce. It’s powered by volunteers, supported by the community, and strengthened by programs like Neighbours to Neighbours, where residents can sponsor a box for someone in need of extra support.
At a time when every dollar counts, this program is making fresh food more accessible, one box at a time.
The Neighbours to Neighbours Initiative allows agencies or individuals to purchase Good Food Boxes for households who need help covering the cost. Your donation can support local families, donate today.
