Since 2005, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have packed and distributed over 23,000 backpacks to children of low income homes right across Bruce and Grey Counties. This summer, we will pack our 25,000th backpack and we are inviting you to help us celebrate by taking part in our GREAT CANADIAN BACKPACK CHALLENGE!

The Concept:
This year we are holding a “scavenger hunt” type event that will lead teams of 1 or 2 people to pre-determined locations in or close to downtown Owen Sound. Starting at the United Way Bruce Grey, teams will be given a backpack with a clue that will take them to their first stop where they will receive a school supply item for their backpack. This item will have a clue for their next stop, and so on. When the teams have filled their backpacks, they can return to the United Way office for refreshments.  Also, one lucky team will win a prize and a chance to pack the coveted 25,000th BACKPACK!

This event is a great opportunity for families and work places to take part and is super great for team building and giving back to the community.

Date: Thursday, July 25, 2019

Time: 10 am to 3 pm*
*The route to complete all stations measures 2 kilometres in length. We expect that most teams will finish the route within one hour. You are welcome to walk, bike, rollerblade, etc.

Cost: $25/team or participants may also collect pledges from multiple people interested in supporting the event (all proceeds go towards our Backpack Program).

Clues: If participants are stuck, modest clues will be provided at a cost of $2/clue or 3 clues for $5. (again, all proceeds go towards our Backpack Program).

Note: This is not a timed event. Winners will be chosen at random from those teams that finish the challenge.

Teams are asked to pre-register for a time slot at backpacks@unitedwaybg.com, by giving us a call at 519-376-1560 or by stopping by our office at 380 9th Street East in Owen Sound.
