#FinancialFridays: $200 Update

In late January and early February 2025, the Ontario Government sent $200 cheques to those over 18 years of age who had filed their 2023 taxes. For those with children who receive the Canada Child Benefit, they were to receive a cheque of $200 for each child under 18 years of age. Example. If you have two children under 18 years, you were to get a cheque for $400.

These were paper cheques sent through the mail, and there were issues for many people. Some people’s cheques were sent to old mailing addresses. Some people’s cheques had old names on them, for example, the person’s name before changing it at marriage. And some people just didn’t get a cheque at all, even though they met the criteria.

If you haven’t received a cheque, try using the “Track my Ontario Taxpayer Rebate” website at https://services.ontario.ca/otris. It is estimated it can take 5-10 minutes to complete the information for this search. You will need

  • an account login
  • The last four digits of your Social Insurance number
  • Your date of birth
  • The postal code of the mailing address you use in your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax return.
