Board and community committee survey

The United Way of Bruce Grey in partnership with Community Foundation Grey Bruce is seeking to understand the challenges boards and local committees will be facing in the next decade.

Your participation in taking this survey is greatly appreciated. The survey is being distributed through Community Connection – your local 211 provider, to ensure we reach as many organizations as possible.

The purpose of this survey is to help us understand the barriers and opportunities for local charities and not-for-profits to engage people under the age of 40 in sitting on boards of directors and moving into leadership positions.

In our Vital Conversations held with youth in Grey Bruce last November, we have learned that youth do not feel that they have a voice in community decisions. Access to volunteer opportunities for youth and the resulting intergenerational contact will deepen belonging and inclusion for all member of our community.  This survey will give us an indication of how well we are doing at bridging the generations in our work.

Because different perspectives are valued, we encourage both staff and board members to complete the survey, and having multiple respondents from the same organization is also welcomed. Volunteers who sit on multiple boards and committees can complete the survey for each board or committee on which they sit. We are also interested in Community Committees so if you are a Community Committee please answer the general questions and use “board of directors” interchangeably with “committee”.

Municipally=mandated and led committees should not be included (Police Services Boards, Committees of Adjustment, etc.). By contrast, ad hoc municipal committees, including festival and event committees for example, are encouraged to complete the survey.

We ask that all surveys be completed by Friday March 16, 2018.  Your individual responses will NOT be shared, results will be presented in aggregate only so that no one can be identified based on a response provided. A summary of the results will be made available for download on the United Way Bruce Grey website, once the data is compiled.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
