We’ve Got Your Back-pack

This little girl is going to school for the first time this year, and she was excited to drop off a donation at our Stuff the Bus event in Port Elgin!
Hi everyone, Lauryn here. The Backpack Program season has officially come to an end, but if you’re still in need, keep reading; it’s not too late to get a backpack.
Backpacks Out the Door
This year, we sent out 2,202 backpacks, with another 263 waiting to go out. That’s a total of 2,465 backpacks prepared and ready to support students across Bruce Grey. We will give you the final numbers in a couple of weeks.
This Week’s Deliveries
Here’s where backpacks landed this week:
- Women’s House – 6 backpacks
- South East Grey Community Health Centre – 16 backpacks
- Red Door Youth Centre – 23 backpacks
- Kikendaasogaming Elementary – 60 backpacks (awaiting pickup as of Friday morning)
Requests So Far
The need this year was clear and strong:
- Agency Orders: 1,730
- Individual Orders: 559
- Total Requested: 2,289
A Season to Celebrate
This was my last week with the Backpack Program, and I couldn’t have asked for a better season. I want to wish all the students, teachers, educational assistants, bus drivers, administrative staff, and custodians an excellent school year. Every backpack we handed out is a reminder of the strength and care that exists in our community.
Still Time to Get a Backpack
If you’re still in need, you’re not out of luck. The office will be closed on Monday for Labour Day, but give us a call on Tuesday and we’ll make sure you’re taken care of (519-376-1560).
Powered by Community
This program exists because of you, community members, agencies, donors, and volunteers who believe in giving kids the tools to succeed. Thank you for making this season such a success.
