“This Is For Her.” – A Recent Donor’s Story

One recent donor shared this moment from their time working in the School Health Support System:
“The Backpack Program has a face for me. A tiny Junior Kindergarten girl, not yet four years old. I saw her during a school visit—our second meeting that fall. She came bouncing into the office, absolutely glowing. ‘Mr. X gave me a BRAND NEW backpack!’ she said. ‘It’s full of SO MUCH stuff! He must really like me!’ She pointed proudly: ‘That’s his office RIGHT THERE!’”
And then the donor said simply:
“This is for her.”
That one backpack was more than notebooks and crayons. It was a sign that someone cared. It gave her dignity, confidence, and a spark of joy that lit up the whole room.
That’s the impact.
That’s what donors make possible—hundreds of times over, every year, across Bruce Grey.
This recent gift was made in honour of that little girl—and for all the other kids who deserve to feel seen, prepared, and proud when they walk through those school doors.
So if you’ve ever given to the Backpack Program, know this:
You’re helping a child believe they matter.
And that changes everything.
