Post Event Update: We Remember Them 2025

This past Saturday, the community came together at the Owen Sound Farmers’ Market for the 5th annual We Remember Them event, honouring lives lost to the ongoing opioid crisis.

In a touching tribute, attendees dropped carnations into the river near the 8th and 9th Street Bridges, symbolizing remembrance for those we’ve lost. Photos were shared on a memory wall, creating a space for reflection and connection.

Donations collected support the Supportive Outreach Service (SOS) Project, helping to continue vital outreach efforts in our community.

We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who participated, and a special acknowledgment to Gelja Sheardown, whose vision brought this event to life five years ago.

Many shared that the event gave them a meaningful opportunity to reflect and process their grief. We are also grateful to our partners, Safe ‘N Sound and Grey Bruce Public Health, for their support, including Naloxone training and expert resources.

As a community, we stand united, committed to remembering those we’ve lost and working together toward solutions to address and overcome opioid addiction.
