Kincardine Laundry Response Update
For Immediate Release: July 17, 2024
Community groups come together to explore and communicate options for laundry services
Kincardine, ON – Local social service agencies and programs are working together to support access to laundry services, due to the fire at 330 Durham Market Square South on Saturday, July 6th, 2024. Thankfully there were no injuries from this fire but there are, and will continue to be, impacts on the owner, businesses, and residents, due to the damage to the services located in this building.
Residents and visitors who need laundry services are being directed to call 211 to find the nearest laundry service available. 211 services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or visit them online HERE. If transportation is a barrier, please call 211 and let them know this is a challenge, and they will track the issues and try to find resources to help.
The United Way has set up an information page on their website available through www.kincardinelaundry.ca
The United Way and the Kincardine Food Bank are partnering to raise funds to meet the needs of residents who are challenged by the loss of this resource. People can donate directly to the Kincardine Food Bank noting “laundry” as part of their donation, or through the United Way’s CanadaHelps portal, available at www.kincardinelaundry.ca.
Community partners include the United Way Bruce Grey, Canadian Mental Health Association, the Kincardine Food Bank, Bruce County, the Kincardine Good Food Box, St Vincent de Paul, 211, the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce, Shoreline Classics Radio FM, and the Lakeside Downtown BIA.
Councillor Beth Blackwell, who brought together the community partners, said “Having lost a property of my own to a fire, I can only imagine how challenging and disruptive this must be for the business owners and those who utilized their facilities. I appreciate our many local partners who have begun to identify alternative options and are reaching out to those who may be most impacted by the current gap in service. As we continue to monitor the situation, I encourage those needing access to laundry services to call 2-1-1 for up-to-date information.”
The United Way acknowledges the leadership of Councillor Blackwell and Kincardine municipal staff in pulling together information and facilitating the initial meeting.
“It is a role municipalities can play in providing leadership and facilitation to meet the needs of the residents of their community,” acknowledged United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn.
