#FinancialFridays: The Financial Literacy Program
One of the things we hear from people who meet with Caroline (she/her), our Financial Literacy Coordinator, is that they are so relieved they did so. Money can be scary; Money and the lack of money can feel overwhelming; Trying to “make ends meet” can make your mind go in circles trying to solve the puzzle and drain your energy. If any of that resonates with you, consider talking to Caroline. Or, if you have heard a friend or family member saying these things about their own life, let them know about the Financial Literacy Program.
Caroline usually books an hour-long meeting over the phone, virtually through Zoom or Facebook Messenger, or in person. You will talk through your monthly expenses, income, assets, and debts. If you don’t know the exact numbers, Caroline can help you estimate certain costs. This lets you and her have a conversation about the things in your life that are important to you and gives her an overview of your financial situation. Caroline will then give you information about programs that you may be able to use that can lower a bill or help cover a cost. She will talk to you about realistic strategies that you can use to help manage your money. She will also go through your options to deal with debt and move forward.
Our Financial Literacy Program is free to anyone living in Grey or Bruce Counties. It is confidential, so your information stays safe.
You can contact Caroline directly at advice@unitedwaybg.com or by phoning or texting 519-378-4773. This is not an emergency program and it is in high demand, so please be patient with Caroline. She will get back to you to book an appointment. Appointments are booked around 2-3 weeks out.
