#FinancialFridays: Scam Texts
Do you get these types of text messages?

The Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada will never send you a text message. These are scams.
If you receive messages like these from other organizations or businesses, ask yourself some questions before clicking on them.
Did I sign up for text messages from this organization or businesses?
- If you did, it probably can be trusted.
- If you don’t want to get the text messages anymore, there should be a mechanism to unsubscribe.
- If you didn’t, don’t press any links. It is probably a scam.
Am I able to find the information they are talking about by looking at their official website?
- Look at the official website instead of clicking the link they give you.
Did I ask for the information they are sending me?
- If you did, it is safer to look for an official email, look on their website, or find the company’s official phone number on their website instead of following the instructions they are sending you.
- If you didn’t, it is probably a scam.
Note: Scammers know when people are likely to get money from the government, like at tax season or the months when the GST/HST Credit is paid. They target people at these times using details about those benefits.
