#FinancialFridays: ODSP – as an income source

If you have a disability and need income for living costs, consider applying for the Ontario Disability Support Program.

The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) is an income program for people with disabilities.

In Grey and Bruce Counties, ODSP funding and support are administered by the local ODSP office based in Owen Sound. Applications are done online and sent to a central intake office in Ontario. Once someone living in Grey or Bruce Counties is approved for ODSP, their file is sent to the local office.

We strongly advise that you work with the Grey Bruce Legal Clinic (or the nearest clinic to you) prior to submitting an application.

How to apply for ODSP

You can apply for ODSP:

ODSP can offer:

  • Money to help you and your eligible family members with living expenses, including food and rent
  • Health benefits for you and your eligible family members
  • Connection to help finding and keeping a job.

If you are eligible for ODSP, the amount of money you get will depend on your household situation. In most cases, you don’t have to participate in activities that will help you towards getting a job to keep getting financial help.

For a single person with no dependents, they would receive $1,408 per month for basic needs and shelter.
