#FinancialFridays: Didn’t Get Your $200?

What should I do if I haven’t received by $200 cheque from the Ontario government?

Our January 24th Financial Friday post was about the $200 cheque all eligible Ontario residents are to receive. Cheque started to arrive in mailboxes mid-January and the Ontario government said cheque delivery would continue into the first weeks of February.

If you are over 18 and filed your 2023 income taxes before December 31st, 2024, and you haven’t received your cheque yet, continue to visit your mailbox. If you want to check what address the Ontario government has on file and the status of your rebate cheque, you can. Visit https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontario-taxpayer-rebate. A little over halfway down the website page, there is a link you can go to titled “Check my address and rebate status online”. You will need:

  • An account login
  • The last 4 digits of your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Your date of birth
  • The postal code of the mailing address you used in your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax return.

You can also phone Service Canada at 1-833-351-0409 to update your delivery address. Once it is updated, a new cheque will be sent to the new address. Any previously mailed cheques will be cancelled.

SCAM ALERT

The Government of Ontario will only contact you directly in response to a question or query about the rebate you initiate. It will not contact you other than this by text, email, or phone to:

  • Ask for personal information (for example, Social Insurance Number (SIN), bank account information, health information),
  • Offer you money or a reward, or
  • Sign you up for a rebate program.
