#FinancialFridays: Changes to Canadian Dental Care Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is expanding eligibility!
As of May 1st, the first round of eligible adults can apply! Eligible adults between the ages of 18 and 64 can apply now and at designated times in May. They can start receiving care as of June 1st.
There are three phases based on age range:
- Adults aged 55-64 – Can apply as of May 1st
- Adults aged 18-34 – Can apply as of May 15th
- Adults aged 35-54 – Can apply as of May 29th
You need to meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- No dental insurance – This means that you don’t have coverage through work, school, a pension, or a private plan. If you get dental benefits through a government social program, you might still qualify – the CDCP will coordinate with those to fill in the gaps.
- Filed your 2024 taxes – You and your spouse or common-law partner, if you have one, must have submitted your 2024 Tax Return and received your Notice of Assessment.
- Income under $90,000 – Your adjusted family net income for 2024 must have been below $90,000.
- Canadian resident for tax purposes – You need to be living in Canada and filing taxes here.
If you are 65+ or are an adult between 18 and 54 and have a Disability Tax Credit or are a child under the age of 18, you can apply, if you haven’t already.
