#FinancialFridays: $200 from the Ontario Government

The Ontario Government has started sending Ontario residents a $200 rebate. No specific date has been provided beyond “in the coming weeks”.

This rebate will be sent to every eligible taxpayer and child in Ontario.

To be eligible, you must have filed your 2023 income taxes by December 31, 2024. You must also have been 18 or older at the end of 2023, a resident in Ontario on December 31, 2023, and not bankrupt or incarcerated in 2024.

Eligible families will get an additional $200 for each child under 18. This rebate for the children will go to the parent who receives the Canada Child Benefit. If there is a shared custody arrangement for a child, the payment will be split based on the most recent CCB information available.

  • For families with children who didn’t receive the CCB for 2024, the government will provide an opportunity for a taxpayer rebate payment of $200 per child. Details about this will be available in the coming weeks.

This rebate is being paid by cheque only, so watch your mailbox. This is a one-time rebate.

The Ontario Government will never contact you directly by text, email, or phone to:

  • Ask for personal information (like, your Social Insurance Number (SIN), bank account information, or health information)
  • Offer you money or a reward, or
  • Sign you up for a rebate program
