2015 Hunger Report : WTF – Where’s The Food!
Food Bank Report 2016
The United Way of Bruce Grey in partnership with the Food Security Action Group of the Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force are releasing their 2015 Hunger Report : WTF – Where’s The Food!
Area food banks have noted a 92% increase in the number visits throughout Bruce Grey. Going from 13 500 in 2013 to over 26 000 in 2015. While more food banks reported in, the increase in users cannot be strictly attributed to the additional 4 food banks’ data. With only 14 out of 21 food banks reporting visits, the actual number is significantly higher.
With this data it is estimated that over 16% of the population has accessed food bank services.
Despite the food banks’ best efforts less than half can provide fresh healthy food.
The region continues to see the negative effects of precious employment with the Ontario Association of Food Banks noting 1 in 3 jobs is temporary, contact or part-time.
